Is there a reliable Greg Louganis net worth figure?
No. Sites that print a precise number rarely say where it came from. None of them have access to his accounts, property records or debts.
Louganis himself has said that better money management might have left him in a different position. A guess built on his fame says little about what he holds.
What this page does instead
Every figure below comes from an auction house, a news report or his own public statements. Where a number is missing (the home sale price, for example) the page says so.
Where his income has come from
Profiles point to several sources. His memoir Breaking the Surface spent five weeks at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Sports Illustrated's 2008 profile describes speaking tours, training show dogs and a dog-care book.
He has also worked on stage and screen and mentored the US diving team. None of those sources comes with a published earnings figure.
The Malibu foreclosure scare
The documentary Back On Board follows him from 2011 to 2013. Around the Rings describes a man struggling to stay afloat financially who fears losing his Malibu house to foreclosure.
An Olympic champion with four golds and a bestselling book was still close to losing his home.
The 2025 medal auction
RR Auction sold three of his medals in its summer 2025 sale for a combined $430,865, including the buyer's premium.
- 1988 Seoul, gold, 10-meter platform: $201,314
- 1984 Los Angeles, gold, 3-meter springboard: $199,301
- 1976 Montreal, silver, 10-meter platform: $30,250
His 1988 springboard gold and 1984 platform gold were not in the sale. The full medal list shows which is which.
Why he sold
Reports in 2023 said the proceeds would go to the Damien Center, an Indiana HIV and AIDS services group. In 2025 he wrote on Facebook that he sold the medals and his home because he needed the money for the move to Panama. Fox News also reports earlier auction attempts in 2022 and 2023.
Home sale, Panama and a lighter life
Queerty reported at the start of September 2025 that he had completed the sale of his California home and arrived in Panama City. The sale price has not been made public.
He said he wants to travel light. Friends who lost homes in the Woolsey and Palisades fires inspired him to start over. Where he lives now and the reporting on the move have the rest.
